NHL Bets - 8/4/2020 - Let's Turn This Ship Around (EDITS at 11:57am EST and 7:06pm EST)

Game 1: Panthers vs Islanders

  • Bet 1: 1.5% wager on game total goals under 5.5 @ -147 odds

  • Bet 2: 1.5% wager on Islanders to win, including overtime @ -125 odds (Placed at 11:57pm EST)

(*Bet 2 was made at 11:59pm EST once Bobrovsky was confirmed in net for Florida.)

Game 1 in this series was a battle, a 2-1 win by the Islanders, just how we thought a Barry Trotz coached game would go. We expect game 2 to be no different with these squads relying on goaltending and defense to get the job done. We give the slight offensive edge to Florida, but we do not expect them to run up the score by any means. We could see another 2-1 score going either way.

Game 2: Coyotes vs Predators

  • Bet 1: 1.5% wager on Arizona to win, including overtime @ +110 odds

Early in game 1 Arizona weathered the storm and then immediately started their counterattack that lead to an early 3-1 lead in the first. They must have taken their foot off the gas a bit, because Nashville eventually came back to make the game 4-3. However, even with the late momentum by Nashville, we still believe the Coyotes can go up 2-0 in the series no problem. Our model is giving Arizona the goalie edge and therefore the edge to win, our analysis is backing that up, thus we feel comfortable taking this bet. Arizona is young and should be able to take advantage of this fast paced bracket play. We fully expect them to have the ability to keep play in the Predators end for most of the game.

Game 3: Blue Jackets vs Maple Leafs

  • Bet 1: 1.5% wager on Columbus to win, including overtime @ +128 odds

  • Bet 2: 1.0% wager on game total goals under 5.5 @ -110 odds

Columbus locked it down in game one. Even with all that offensive power that Toronto has, they could not get a puck past Korpisalo. We are counting on Columbus to play with that exact same defensive mindset and we will count on Korpisalo OR Merzlikins to out play the inconsistent Frederik Andersen. Columbus is built for the playoffs, they just lack some offensive firepower, but it would seem they can get by in this series.

Game 4: Hurricanes vs Rangers

  • Bet 1: 1.0% wager on total goals under 5.5 @ -120 odds

  • Bet 2: 1.5% wager in Rangers to win including overtime @ +125 odds (Placed at 7:06pm EST)

The Rangers have not had an answer for the Hurricanes offense and we do not blame them. Last game, Svechnikov came up big with a hatrick, but when you worry about him, a team can forget about the ability of Aho, Teravainen, Williams, Trocheck, and Niederreiter. We would feel a lot more comfortable leaning towards the Rangers side in one of these games if Shesterskin could get the start, but 2 games in a row we was deemed unfit to play minutes before game time. We definitely trust Mraek and Reimer over Lundqvist at this point (something we NEVER thought we would say), so if he is in net we expect Carolina to get theirs and the Rangers to put up their 1 or 2. However, if Shesterkin gets the start, we could see this game go 2-1 either way.

Game 5: Wild vs Canucks

  • Bet 1: 1.5% wager on Vancouver to win, including overtime @ +105 odds

We have Vancouver to win this series and we still feel confident about that, even with the incredible odds stacked against teams that lose game 1 in a best of 5 series. We are getting plus odds on the Canucks, which makes us feel even better since we believe Vancouver is the better team with the better goalie. Markstrom had some tough breaks last game and even though he lost, we felt he had a winnable performance going for his team. Our model has not changed in having Vancouver winning this game and neither has our analysis, we are counting on their young talent (Boeser, Pettersson) to show up and make some noise in game two.
